These rules and
regulations will apply at all PURE STOCK class racing at Cannonball
Motor Speedway events. Cannonball Motor Speedway officials will
have full authority over all PURE STOCK events. At the discretion
of the official(s) in charge, any competitor may be disqualified for
rules violation, hazardous equipment, or hazardous actions.
All vehicles are
subject to inspection by an official at any time. Approval of the
participants race vehicle; other equipment; by an official inspector
will mean only that the vehicle is approved for participation in a
competitive event, and shall not be construed in any way to mean
or imply that the vehicle is guaranteed to be mechanically sound or
safe. Be it further known that neither Cannonball Motor Speedway
nor its Officials will be held liable for any mechanical failure or
fitness; nor for any losses, injuries or death resulting from the same.
Any un-sportsmanlike
conduct by a driver, owner, pit crew member will be grounds for
disqualification and/or punitive action.
DRIVERS
ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONDUCT AND ACTIONS OF THEIR CREW MEMBERS.
Absolutely no
alcoholic beverages will be consumed by a driver or their pit crews
prior to, or during an event. Use, distribution, or sale of
illegal drugs at any time can be cause for immediate and/or indefinite
suspension and/or legal action.
All cars subject to
inspection before and after competing in any event.
IF
FOUND ILLEGAL YOU FORFEIT WINNINGS FOR THE NIGHT
AND
POINTS FOR THE YEAR.
BODIES
All American
manufactured, steel bodied, production passenger car. No
subcompacts, I.e. Pinto, Vega, or a wheelbase less than 101 inches will
be permitted. Also no trucks, vans, station wagons or
convertibles will be allowed. NO FRAME SHORTENING WILL BE
PERMITTED.
ALL BODY PANELS
MUST BE FACTORY STOCK, doors and quarters maybe replaced with steel
panels, no less then .040,must remain stock appearance
MUST
HAVE FACTORY CORE SUPPORT IN ORIGINAL STOCK LOCATIONS.
All doors must be
bolted or welded shut. All exterior chrome, moldings, etc. MUST
be removed.
No chopping,
shortening, or cutting of the body is permitted, except to allow the
tire clearance. NO MORE THAN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
Front inner fender
wells may be removed.
Rear wheel tubs must
remain in place.
Area of trunk may be
cut out to allow clearance for fuel cell only. NO BOXING OR
ENCLOSING TRUNK AREA
No rub rails.
Front and Rear
bumpers must be stock and must be stock and must be mounted securely.
Reinforcement directly behind bumper is allowed, but must be concealed
behind bumper.
No Spoilers of any
kind!!!
Aftermarket
nose/tail pieces will be permitted, however, these nose pieces must be
mounted in such a manner that the nose of the car appears unaltered,
and fit’s the rest of the cars body with factory bumper behind nose
piece.
All cars will be
equipped with front and rear tow hook. These shall be strong
enough to support the weight of the car, so the car can be easily
accessible by track personnel and wrecker crews. THIS WILL BE
ENFORCED
Body must be neatly
painted, and kept in a neat and SAFE appearance. Bodies
shall be repaired and straight before each racing event.
Numbers must be at
least 18” high, and 3” thick on roof and sides of car.
No glass permitted.
A ¼” to ½” mesh screen, bars or both are required over front
windshield opening.
Interior of car must
be completely stripped of upholstery, plastic, glass, and chrome.
No mirrors allowed.
Inner door
structures may be removed to fit cage.
Front and Rear stock
firewall must be maintained, and in original stock location. No
alterations to original front and rear firewall will be permitted.
No boxing in of
interior. Interior MUST be open.
Rear stock firewall
must be completely covered.
Completely stock
floor boards must run from drivers door to passenger door, and from
front firewall to rear firewall. Patching is permitted over
holes, but original stock floor pans may not be removed,
fabricated or altered.
A steel hood with
hole, for air cleaner, is allowed. Stock latches must be removed
and closed with 4 steel hood pins or steel bolts.
Rocker panels must
remain in place.
No Skirting allowed.
ROOFS, must be
factory height, no sloping or angled roofs, window/quarter posts must
remain steel and in factory location
FRAMES
AND ROLL CAGES
MINIMUM
WEIGHT 3000LBS WITH DRIVER
Full frame and uni-body
cars allowed.
Uni-body cars must
tie front and rear frame rails together.
All frame sections,
front and rear must remain completely stock. NO “X”
BRACING OF FRAMES.
Factory wheelbase. NO
SHORTENING PERMITTED. Frame and body must match wheelbase
Roll cage must
consist of continuous hoops not less than 1.5 inches outside diameter;
and must have a wall thickness of at least .095 inches.
Roll cage must be
frame mounted a minimum of four(4) places. Roll cage must be
securely supported and braced and welded to frame. No pieced
together Roll cages will be permitted.
DRIVER cannot set
behind quarter post. NO part of drivers body can be behind side post,
side post must remain in stock location
Driver’s head must
not protrude above cage with helmet on and strapped in driver’s seat.
Low carbon, mild
steel tubing is recommended. No brazing or soldering allowed.
Must be welded.
The sidebars must be
welded to the front and rear of the roll cage members.
Driver door bars
must be parallel with the ground as possible, and located perpendicular
to the driver as to provide maximum protection for the driver, but
without causing undue difficulty in getting into or out of vehicle.
Door bars must be no less than .095 thickness. Must have three
(3) bars at least 1 ½” in diameter in driver’s door and must have
at least two (2) bars in passenger door.
Bracing in front of
radiator permitted, must remain behind the front bumper.
All parts of the
roll cage assembly must be kept within the confines of the body of the
car.
SAFETY
EQUIPMENT
Helmets
are required and must meet Snell 85 or 95 standards. Helmet must
accompany vehicle at all times of inspection. Helmet must not be
cracked or chipped. Helmets must be worn at all times when on the
track regardless of race condition.
No radios or any
communication devices will be permitted.
Fire suits of
flame-retardant nature must be worn by all competitors. Two piece
suits are allowed. Fire resistant gloves and shoes are
recommended.
Fire extinguishers
are required; must be charged, with a gauge, and properly mounted (not
taped) within driver’s reach. Onboard fire suppression system
is highly recommended.
Racing seat is
required and must be bolted to roll cage, not floor pan.
Competition type
seat belts are required. No factory type seat belts may be used.
Belts must be attached to roll cage at all points.
Racing fuel cells
are required and must be mounted by at least two (2) steel straps, two
(2) inches wide by one-eighth (1/8) inch thick around the cell.
Fuel cells must be enclosed in steel container, mounted behind rear
axle only, and must also be protected in rear axle of roll cage tubing
mounted securely. No part of fuel cell should be lower than protective
tubing. Protective tubing should be no wider than six (6) inches
on both sides of fuel cell. Bladders are highly recommended.
Fuel cells are limited to twenty-two (22) gallon maximum capacity.
Fuel cell must be equipped with tip-over valve.
A kill switch is
required. Switch must be located within easy reach of the driver
and must be able to be reached when standing outside of the car.
Switch must be clearly marked ON/OFF.
Batteries must be
securely mounted and shielded. Batteries cannot be mounted inside
the driver’s compartment.
No loose objects
and/or weights in driver’s compartment or outside the body or hood
area.
WHEEL
& TIRES
Any
Hoosier, American Racer, or Goodyear 15-8" HARD only tire is
permitted on rear only. Any compound/manufacturer 15-8" tire
permitted on front.
Eight (8) inch steel
racing wheels only.
No wheel plugs.
BEAD
LOCK RIGHT SIDE ONLY
One (1) inch lug
nuts are mandatory. Larger studs may be installed.
TRANSMISSION,
BELL HOUSING & CLUTCH
Three
speed, four speed manual and automatic transmissions are allowed.
No “in and out” boxes. With engine running and car in
still position, driver must be able to engage the car and move forward,
then stop and engage the car and move backwards. Clutch must be
inside of the bell housing.
Transmission must
have at least one forward gear and one reverse gear, plus a neutral
position, and must be able to be shifted by the driver.
Clutch type
transmission must be equipped with a full bell housing. If and
explosion proof type bell housing is not available for your engine, you
may construct a shield of at least ½’ X 6’ steel covering the
clutch area 180 degrees and be securely fastened.
Triple disc clutch
allowed.
Torque converters
optional
No
Bert or Brinn transmission.
ENGINE
Engine
MUST match body, i.e. GM to GM, Ford to Ford, etc…..
CAST iron block and
heads.
NO roller cam or
roller lifters allowed
Any Flat Tappet,
Solid or Hydraulic cam will be allowed. ROLLER ROCKERS OPTIONAL.
Engine must be
located in original stock location. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!
Number one plug must
be no less than 2” IN FRONT of the top ball joint
No “dry-sump”
systems allowed.
Engine cooling
system may be modified.
All vehicles must
have the capability of starting without being pushed or pulled.
Stock
type, battery ignition only. No magnetos .NO MSD box, NO traction
control devices High performance coils are permitted.
Any (2) two or (4)
four barrel carburetors will be permitted. No fuel injection
1” carb spacer or
adapter will be allowed
No electrical or
belt driven fuel pumps. Mechanical only.
Gasoline is the only
fuel allowed. No Nitrous Oxide, Alcohol or additives of any kind.
REAR
ENDS
Any
OEM passenger car type, or truck type rear ends may be used.
FLOATERS are
permitted.
Ford nine-inch rear
ends are allowed to be used in all brands of cars, but must use stock
suspension mounts in stock location.
DRIVE
SHAFT
Drive shaft must be
steel and must be painted white. Drive shaft loop is required and
must be constructed of ¼" x 2" steel; tubular hoops must be
made of a minimum of 1" diameter tubing and must be mounted no
more than 8" back from the front of the drive shaft.
STEERING
& SUSPENSION
In
cockpit steering may be modified to driver’s taste, but must remain
on left side of the car.
Steering must be
OEM. Steering box must remain within original bolt pattern for
type of frame used.
Steering quickener
allowed.
No rack and pinion
steering allowed.
Front suspension
must be OEM and in stock location. Must be replaceable with the
stock part from the same type of suspension.
No tubular
aftermarket “A” arm permitted.
Stock passenger car
spindles only. No fabricated spindles.
Control arms may not
be altered or moved.
Rear suspension must
remain completely stock.
REAR TRAILING ARMS,
cannot be lower than 3" below axle tube.
TRAILING ARMS, stock
length, stock ends, stock location, cannot be adjustable
NO LEAF SPRING
SLIDERS, NO mono leaf, NO composite leaf, STEEL MULTI. LEAF ONLY, front
of rear leaf must in stock location no adjustable brackets
All coil springs on
car must be minimum of 4 ½’ in diameter.
NO ADJUSTABLE SPRING
CUPS front or rear
No torque arms or
lift bars are permitted, even if they come factory. NO J bars. NO
panhard bar allowed
No hydraulic or
mechanical jacking devices are allowed.
NO JACK
BOLTS OR WELDED JACK BOLTS WILL BE PERMITTED. NO EXCEPTIONS.
All shocks
must remain in STOCK location. No EXCEPTIONS!!! Must use
stock mount, no altered shock mounts permitted.
One shock per wheel
only. Springs and/or shocks are not allowed anywhere on the car
other than at each wheel.
Aftermarket OEM
replacement shocks permitted. No air shocks or aluminum shocks.
NO heim ended
shocks, front or rear.
No coil over shocks
or springs allowed. NO HELPER SPRINGS.
Must
be original spring suspension that matches the type of car being used.
Coil for coil, leaf for leaf.
BRAKES
All
cars will have brakes in operating condition on all four wheels.
Brakes must be operated on all four wheels and must lock up on all four
wheels during inspection.
OEM brake
calipers only. Brake rotors may not be modified, I.e. drilled
full of holes, etc…..
No aluminum or
racing style calipers or rotors permitted.
AFTERMARKET brake
pedals allowed
ENGINE
CLAIM
$1050.00
and YOUR engine or $1550.00 and YOU KEEP your engine. $50.00 from
either buy-out goes to the track.
This claim
will not include, carburetor, distributor, starter, engine
mounts, sending units, valve covers, water pump, pulleys, fuel
pump, exhaust manifolds, fly wheel, clutch, transmission, or
intake.
Only the top
Three (3) finishers in a Feature can be claimed.
Only the top Ten
(10) finishers in a Feature, on the LEAD lap, and that finish a race
can claim an engine.
All money must
be put up before the Feature, with the number of the car you are
claiming in a sealed envelope. Sealed envelopes need to be turned
in at the Pit office. The first on to put up the money will be
the first one eligible to claim the engine.
The driver of
the car whose engine is being “claimed” will have One (1) chance to
sell or NOT sell their engine. Once it is stated to sell or NOT
sell, that statement IS binding. Only a driver may claim an
engine, and only a driver may sell an engine.
Buyer must
inspect engine before it is removed, and once removed the sale is
FINAL. Any sabotage to claimed engine will result in suspension
from the track for 30 calendar days.
If a driver
that is being “claimed” does not sell , they forfeit all winnings
and points for that night.
REMEMBER
this is a Pure Stock
Division intended for safe, inexpensive participation. Abuse of
these rules or “creative interpretation” to excess will not be
tolerated.
