SAFETY:
Five-point
safety belts with shoulder harness required.
SFI-approved fire suit. Helmets
are required and must be Snell SA95 or SA90.
Helmets must be worn at all times when the car is on the track and
must accompany vehicle at the time of inspection.
Belts must be mounted to the cage.
Kill switch required, must be within easy reach of the driver, and
must be clearly marked "ON" and "OFF."
360-degree drive shaft loop is required and must be constructed of
at least 0.25 inch by two-inch steel and should be mounted six inches back
from the front of the driveshaft. Driveshaft
must be painted white. All
cars must have racing seat fastened to rollcage, NOT bolted to the
floorboard. All cars must be equipped with a working, fully charged fire
extinguisher inside the car and within the driver’s reach.
Must be securely fastened, not taped in.
Extinguisher must have a readable gauge that shows amount of
charge.
BODY:
1960 or
newer American made stock passenger automobile with factory steel top.
Sunroofs and T-tops must be reinforced and enclosed.
All bodies must be OEM. No
spoilers, wings, skirts, air scoops or anything that alters the stock
appearance. Gutting of hoods and trunks is permitted.
All hoods and trunks must be securely fastened with hood pins or
bolts and the back of the hood must be sealed off from the driver's
compartment. Maximum
seven-inch sun visor may be added to the top of the windshield opening
only. No external rub rails
allowed. All sharp edges, torn
fenders and body panels are to be repaired prior to the next race.
Must have a minimum of three windshield bars in front of the
driver. No ballast allowed.
All glass, plastic, upholstery, rear seats, lights, mirrors, and
chrome must be removed. No
interior tin or other covers. All
doors must be secured shut - welded, chained, bolted, etc. The front inner
wheelwells may be removed, but not the rear wheelwells. Complete front and
rear firewalls with no holes must separate driver's compartment from trunk
area and engine bay. Aftermarket
nosepiece is acceptable but must match make of car and fit contour of
body.
FRAME:
101-inch
minimum. Unibodies must be
tied rear frame to front frame. No
station wagons, convertibles, four-wheel drive or rear engines.
Bumpers must be in stock location.
Front and rear bumpers must be capped and kept within fender width
of the car.
ROLL
CAGE:
A full perimeter four post rollcage with an X-brace in rear; rear
kickers must be used. Rollbar
padding required in driver's compartment.
Fire retardant padding recommended.
Rollcage must be securely welded to frame.
Must have a minimum of one cross bar in halo of rollcage.
Minimum 0.095" wall tubing at least 1.5" outside diameter
for cages and door bars. Three
horizontal door bars on both sides are mandatory.
Minimum of four uprights tied from frame to top door bar on
driver's side, three on passenger side.
Must have tow hook front and rear.
Front hoops allowed. May
have two bars for protection in front of the radiator, behind bumper,
within confines of body but no wider than stock frame horns.
Absolutely no square tubing, exhaust pipe, or galvanized pipe
allowed. Fuel cell protection
bar may be used if mounted framerail to framerail, no higher than the fuel
cell and inside the trunk area. Maximum
1.5" pipe. No bracing outside the body is permitted.
BATTERY
:
Battery
must be in marine type case, securely mounted
in metal frame, and separate from the driver's compartment.
FUEL:
Gasoline
only, no alcohol, nitrous or other additives.
Fuel cell only, no stock gas tanks or boat tanks.
Must be securely fastened inside trunk of car, above level of stock
trunk floor. Fuel cell must be fastened with a minimum of two
1/8"x2" steel straps securely mounted to cage or frame.
Firewall must be between driver and fuel cell. No adjustable fuel
cell mounts. Fuel cell must be
in a 20 gauge steel container. One-way
check valve required. Fuel
lines through driver's compartment must be in steel pipe or conduit.
BRAKES:
OEM
brakes on all four wheels must work. No
aftermarket brake pedal assemblies allowed. No brake shut-off
switches or proportioning valves.
SUSPENSION:
Must be
original type OEM suspension and match the frame.
No add-on quick steer boxes. Steel
shocks in factory locations with factory ends only.
No wheel spacers or spacer chains allowed.
One shock and one spring per wheel only.
No weight jacks of any kind. No coil-overs anywhere on car.
CAR
NUMBER: Must
be clearly marked on both sides of the car, 24-inch height and three-inch
stripe width, must also have car number on the roof at least 18 inches
height and three-inch stripe width. Number
must also be on front and back of the car.
DRIVETRAIN:
Transmission must be OEM automatic with functional torque converter or OEM
single disc-type clutch on manual transmission only.
Manual transmission must have scattershield bell housing or
0.25"x3" plate constructed over top and left side of bell
housing to protect driver's feet.
All forward and reverse gears must be operational.
Torque converter must have a minimum 1/8-inch plug.
Rear ends may be welded. No
floater rear-ends. Rear end
suspension must match the frame. Nine-inch
rear ends are allowed but rear suspension must remain OEM.
TIRES
AND WHEELS: 14"
or 15" rims only. Tires
must be inside body. No mud,
racing, or exotic gumball tires allowed.
No softening, siping, or grooving allowed. No racing re-capped
tires. Spoke steel wheels allowed. Maximum
eight-inch wheel. No aluminum
or magnesium wheels. Eight-inch
max width steel racing wheels permitted.
Street radial or bias ply tires only.
Maximum eight-inch tread width where tire contacts track.
One-inch lug nuts recommended on all four wheels. No bead locks are
permitted.
ENGINE and CARBURETOR
FOLLOWING RULES APPLY
TO ALL ENGINES
1.
Engine must appear strictly stock for that model and make and in
the original mounts. Chevy to Chevy, Ford to Ford etc.
Stroke must match block. No
porting or polishing or alterations of any kind to heads or intake. No
aftermarket race-type heads. No
roller rockers or tall valve covers. No
angle-plug cylinder heads.
2.
Must have OEM cast iron intake.
No headers, must be cast iron exhaust manifolds.
Exhausts must extend past the firewall.
Must remain dual exhaust, no crossover or Y-pipes. No
high-rise or marine type intakes allowed.
3.
No electric fuel pumps allowed.
No aluminum flywheels. Any
overflow tubes are to be directed to the ground, inside framerails.
Aluminum radiators are permitted.
4.
Two- or four-barrel Holley carburetor, Quadrajet, or equivalent is
allowed. May remove choke, but no other alterations are allowed.
No racing carbs.
5.
Stock ignition only, no magnetos. Bomber class is designed to race
a street car on the track with safety features added.
Any car determined non-stock, engine or otherwise, will be bumped
to the Pure Stock class for the night.
6. All engines must
have a vacuum port in the intake with a 1/4" rubber line extending
out of the hood to be easily accessible for a vacuum test. All cars
must also be equipped with a working tachometer. Vacuum will be
checked at 1000rpm and must pull at least (17"
tentative).
CONDUCT
1.
Failure to furnish a social security number, or providing a false
social security number, will result in a $500 fine to the participant, and
possible legal action by the IRS.
2.
Any driver, owner, pit crew, or anyone associated with the car that
enters the scoring tower or flag stand or competitors pit area will be
fined $100, suspended for two weeks, and will forfeit all winnings for
that night.
3.
Any physical contact with any track staff or official at Cannonball
Motor Speedway may result in permanent suspension from the track and
accompanying legal action.
4. Cannonball
Motor Speedway reserves the right to change or alter any safety-related
rules at any time. All
official decisions are final!
5.
